After uploading my last post just now, I thought to myself, "Self, it's possible that you wouldn't have to wait long to get a picture of a hummingbird at the red Mexican Sage. It's still shady on the front porch; why not give it a try?" To my surprise, I sat down on the rocker, adjusted the settings on my camera, and within 30 seconds (no exaggeration), Anna's Hummingbird (
Calypte anna) paid a visit.
Thanks to my new lens, I grabbed a few shots that show how the color of his feathers shift in the light. Here they are in chronological order:
